Fur-ever starts here

Fur-ever starts here

The weather is cooling down (finally), and you know what that means? It means it’s time to cuddle some animals to keep warm. Obviously.

If you’ve been on the fence about bringing someone new into your family, please let us present some of the delightful little dudes currently looking for a forever home. There are at least six animal rescue organisations all over the county – this is just a snapshot of those organisations, and the animals they’re caring for. You can use the links below to apply directly, but also to see who else is out there waiting for love.

In a really good bit of news, three of the four animals that we featured last time from the Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary have found homes, as have two of the Cats Protection cats!

If you’re not currently in a position to adopt, or you’re just keen to do more animal voluntary work, you can get in touch with the different organisations about doing socialising or being a fosterer. It’s a really great way to be involved with the animal care sector.

Buttons

Buttons | Blue Cross Burford

Buttons is a gorgeous little dog, both inside and out. Her favourite thing to do is run around off lead, so this can be a great way to build a relationship with her. Access to secure areas where she can run free is a must on her tick list!

Buttons can get worried by over-the-top dogs, but she has made some friends at the Blue Cross centre with calmer dogs, and shows her playful side. So she could make some walking friends in her new home if they are suitably matched.

She would ideally be the only dog in her home at the start, but could potentially live with another in the future once she builds some confidence. She cannot live with cats or small furries as she would likely consider them chew toys. She could share her home with older children who are able to read her body language, and will give her some space when she needs it. Time being left alone would need to be built up gradually.

Pete

Grandpappy Pete | Blue Cross Burford

Look at those scraggly ears and silly broken whiskers.

This older gent is hoping for a retirement home where he can finally put up his paws and enjoy the finer things in life. He deserves nothing but the very best after a life on the streets as a stray.

He has had a full MOT with our vet, and been cleared after a blood panel and a dental. Don't be fooled by his lack of teeth though, he loves his food and will give you big Disney-like eyes to say he hasn't been fed (despite just licking his food bowl clean after every meal).

Grandpappy Pete will need to be the only pet in his new home, so he can be the centre of attention. Plus he needs a very warm lap. He does love an afternoon snooze and we have a feeling he'll be a big fan of daytime TV too! He would be best suited to live with adults and teenagers.

Once settled in, Grandpappy Pete will want access to the outside world so he can scope out the sunny snooze spots in the garden. We know that he will return for his mealtimes as he already likes to tell us if we're running even a minute late! His new owners will soon get used to his unusual squeaky meow – it really compliments his ex-rogue exterior.

Smokey and Smartie

Smokey & Smartie | Blue Cross Burford

This pair of lovely middle-aged chinchillas are on the look out for their new home together.

Smartie and Smokey are friendly chinchillas and are both very inquisitive. They are always coming out and about to see what new things may have been added and are always keen on a tasty little snack. They particularly love gnawing on apple branches and foraging around for hidden treats.

Smokey does have cataracts in one eye so is looking for understanding owners that can just give him that extra care in helping him settle into a new home.

They will be able to live with children in their new home, as well as with other pets, providing that they are kept safe and have a quiet safe space where they can go for their beauty sleep.

Dodger

Dodger | Oxford Animal Sanctuary

Dodger is a fun, curious, and smart dog, looking for a committed home. He’s playful, and loves toys – playtime is a delight! Dodger will want a private, secure garden with a minimum of 5ft fencing.

Whilst Dodger is affectionate and loving, it is on his terms. He wants to be in an adult-only home, with experienced dog owners who understand dogs’ body language, and won’t try to force him to do things he’s not comfortable with (he’s not a lap dog). He’ll also want to be the only pet in the home. Adopters will need to work with our behavioural team to help settle Dodger into his new forever home. But if you’re calm and patient, Dodger could be a great fit for your house.

Ernie

Ernie | Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary

Ernie came into our care after a change in home circumstances. He’s a sensitive soul who finds being in a cattery environment quite stressful. All he wants is to be with his humans.

This handsome lad is quite independent. He’s just like any cat – he loves spending time with people, but isn’t keen on being smothered with too much attention. He loves the freedom to come and go as he pleases, knowing that when he wants attention, it’s always there.

Unfortunately, Ernie is quite overweight at the moment, so despite his love for food, it’s incredibly important to keep him on a strict diet until he’s back to fighting fit.

Robin

Robin | Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary

Robin is an utter sweetheart. He’s confident and loves hopping around his enclosure in the hope of finding any extra treats the team may have hidden. He is currently bunnying solo, and is looking for a compani-bun to call his own and to share all those special moments from blinking to flopping!

Robin has glaucoma. He is on twice-daily eye drops to keep his eye pressure at normal levels. He will need the pressure checking regularly. He does have some sight, but this is limited. He is neutered and fully vaccinated.

Ruffle and Puff

Ruffle and Puff | Cats Protection

Have you got years of experience helping scared kittens gain confidence and trust, and blossom into happy adult cats? If so, these two nervous little boys need a home just like yours.

Ruffle and Puff (or, The Puffles, if you will) are very sweet and gentle, but also very timid. They’re unnerved by noise and sudden movement, and they don’t enjoy being picked up – necessary trips to the vet are a bit of an ordeal for these babies.

However, they’ve been working incredibly hard with our fosterers, and every day they’re a little braver. They’re constantly together, and learn positively from each other – every milestone from one is shared by the other. They’ll need a home that is calm and relaxed; with people who are happy to spend time sitting on the floor with them whilst they eat (they’re very food motivated) and play; and who can dedicate some time in the first few months to help them learn that home isn’t scary.

With the right nurturing, these two have the potential to blossom into totally normal cats (though they will probably always scatter when houseguests arrive).

Fifi and Flareon

Fifi and Flareon | RSPCA Oxfordshire & Reading

Fifi and Flareon are two beautiful black and white kittens with lots of love to give. They are 20 weeks old, and looking for a forever home together.

They came into our care after their previous owner sadly had a house fire and was no longer able to care for them. Their siblings have now found homes, but these two are still waiting for their special family.

Fifi can be a little timid to begin with, but she is slowly gaining confidence. Both kittens are friendly, affectionate, and very much bonded to each other, so we like to place them together.

If you think you could offer Fifi and Flareon a loving forever home, please visit their adoption page, Fifi & Flareon kittens - RSPCA Oxfordshire & Reading, where you can complete an application form.

Lenny, Lucas, Libby and Luca

Lenny, Lucus, Libby, & Luca | RSPCA Oxfordshire & Reading

These four lovely 6-month-old tabby kittens are looking for their forever homes.

They came into our care because their previous owner could no longer care for them (which we, at the Clarion, always respect – if you’ve found yourself in a position where you’re unable to care for an animal, relinquishing them into care is a brave and responsible thing to do. Well done). When they first arrived, they were very timid, but they have come on incredibly well since being with us.

They have become much more playful, friendly, and confident. Their new home should be ready to commit some time to ensuring they keep coming out of their shells.

We would like these kittens to be adopted in pairs, so they feel safe and have a friend to grow up with.

If you think you could offer one of these lovely pairs a safe and loving forever home, please visit their adoption page, Four Kittens!!! - RSPCA Oxfordshire & Reading, where you can complete an application form.
