Kids claim the streets of Oxford

The latest Kidical Mass family bike ride attracted a record turnout, according to organisers Cyclox. More than 200 cyclists of all ages converged in Oxford ringing bells as they circled the city centre.

Four feeder rides from Florence Park, Cutteslowe, Headington and West Oxford met in Gloucester Green for a mass ride around the city, in part in celebration of World Car Free Day, tomorrow. Children of all ages rode on bikes, balance bikes, scooters and tagalongs; in child seats and cargo bikes.

Cllr Emma Garnett (Green, Parks) said it was ‘extra exciting to see so many people’ cycling through her division. The ride takes place twice each year with volunteer safety marshals.

Owen McKnight, who led the ride from Florence Park said "We loved seeing kids of all ages on their bikes today. We want streets where they can enjoy riding safely every day, rain or shine."

We have unconfirmed reports that an unknown small rider took a position at the front to regale Broad Street with a chant "Jingle bells / All cars smell'.

Thanks, as ever, to Roger Close for the photography.
